Review: Itsyourstory Personalised Mug

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Everyone loves a good photo gift don't they? Well I certainly do especially when it is good quality and the pictures are not distorted. It's Your Story specialise in personalised books and gifts for children and have sent us one of their new personalised mugs for Gracie to review. There are 15 different designs to choose from; cowboy/girl, explorer, farmer, firefighter, flamenco dancer, footballer, knight, monkey, monster, nurse, pirate, popstar, princess, rockstar or superhero.

I was expecting Gracie to go for a princess mug if I'm completely honest but she surprised me by picking the pirate mug. I searched and searched until I found a photo that might work (one without silly faces or food all over her face!) The one I found wasn't as good quality as I hoped but the team at It's Your Story reassured me it would be fine so I trusted them. They were right of course and I was definitely proved wrong. It was the perfect fit and I was so pleased with the finished product and couldn't wait to show Gracie.

As you can see she absolutely loved it! She has been using it day in day out and even took it on holiday with her. What I love most about the mug is it is made of lightweight plastic so won't break if dropped by little hands (or big hands) this has definitely been tested out with the banging around Gracie does whilst having a drink. I think these mugs would make a great gift for your child. It's something practical and fun which doesn't break the bank at just £10 each.

You can find out more about itsyourstory and see the rest of the products in their personalised gift range on their website HERE. You can also find them on FACEBOOK or Twitter

We were sent the product featured free of charge for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.

Getting A Good Nights Sleep

Monday, September 23, 2013

A very important part of making your house perfect for you is to have the right bed. I mean you spend a lot of time in there if your lucky and getting a good nights sleep can mean the difference between a happy and healthy you or a miserable and tired you (well definitely in my case anyway).

Especially since having kids I've realised just how important it is to get a good kip between night feeds and early mornings. This time around with Zach I've had much less sleep so the quality of sleep is what is important. I always have to have nice duvets and pillows on my bed but have to admit my bed is very old and I'm very much in need of buying a new one, that and a good quality mattress. After spending a week on holiday in a caravan last week in the worlds worst bed I decided when I got home I would start saving to make sure I didnt have to sleep in a bed that uncomfortable again.

Also with moving into our nice new house this week what better excuse is there to 'need' to upgrade our bedroom furniture? Surely I can persuade the OH that this is completely neccesary?

I would love to know what your top tips for a good night sleep are?

New House, New Start

Monday, September 23, 2013

I've kept this quiet mainly as I didn't want to tempt fate at all but we have bought a house. We finally own a house of our own (Well us and the bank!). We finally have our foot on the property ladder and I couldn't be happier. We can now feel secure in our home knowing that we haven't got to get through contract signings every 6-12 months and that our kids can finally be settled. There is a lot of work to be done which is daunting and exciting at the same time.

I can't wait to get all the rooms decorated how we want them especially the kids rooms. Gracie has already decided she wants a fairy bedroom so I've spent hours trawling pinterest and found lots of great ideas I can share with you all (you can have a sneak peek at my pinterest boards using the pinterest button on the right hand side of the blog if you can't wait).

It amazes me how much stuff you seem to accumulate without realising until you move house. It has taken us four days to get everything out of our old house and I don't know where I am going to put any of it! I will be glad when it is all unpacked and I can have more time to blog, I've missed my writing, I guess with so many exciting things going on at the moment I definitely won't be short of things to talk about when I get the chance.

I just wanted to thank you all for your patience while I have been quiet. I have lots of reviews and competitions coming up very soon and will be boring you with lots of house talk and updates on the chunks shortly!

Babys first shoes

Baby's First Shoes!

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Yesterday we went into town to our local independent shoe store to get Zach fitted for his first pair of Clarks shoes. Up until now he has only worn leather shoes like his (Daisy Roots) but now that he is walking I thought he needed a proper fitted shoe. He sat so well behaved while the lady measured his little feet with a big cheeky grin on his face. His feet measured at a whooping 4.5 G. We tried on a few pairs and let him have a stroll around although he refused to let go of the furniture with his strange shoes on! We eventually settled on a cute brown pair the lady went to get her camera to take a picture if him in his shoes which they do for all baby's getting their first shoes as a keepsake. As soon as she went to take the picture he suddenly started to walk properly so we got this amazing action shot!

I couldn't believe they cost £32 for a shoe that'll last around 3 months! BUT since just yesterday his walking has improved drastically so I know that getting fitted shoes at this point is so worth it!

baby's first birthday

My Baby Is Nearly One!

Friday, September 06, 2013

I can not believe how fast the last year has gone! I look at Zach now and still see a baby. To me he doesnt look like a nearly one year old. I don't remember Gracie seeming so babyish at that age but I have a feeling I may be clinging on to the idea of Zach still being my baby whilst his big sister grows more and more independent.

Anyway enough of the moping! It's a time to celebrate. I need to plan something. So far we are taking him to the sealife centre in the morning for a few hours and hoping to have a party at home for him over his birthday weekend. I have two weeks to plot away and come up with some exciting plans and PRESENTS!

What do you buy a one year old boy? My house already looks like an abandoned toy shop with toys around every corner. I am looking for inspiration.

What was the best gift your child ever received? What toys do you feel are great value for money?

all seasons duvet

Slumberdown All Seasons Duvet

Wednesday, September 04, 2013

As a member of the Slumberdown panel of mums I bring you another review of one of their fantastic products. I was sent the Slumberdown all seasons duvet a few months ago to review and have been using it through both extremely warm and cold weather so now feel ready to give you an informed opinion.

Well now it's that time of year where lots of people make a switch to a winter duvet and pack the summer duvet into the cupboard. If I'm honest I only ever have the one and I actually had two sewn together to make them nice and warm problem with that was it was way too hot in the summer months! Well now I have the all seasons duvet and it is the answer to all my problems. The duvet is actually two, one is a 4.5 Tog suitable for summer, the other is a 9.0 Tog suitable for when it starts to get a little chilly at night. The two duvets can then be fastened together with poppers to create the perfect winter duvet.

I first received the duvet back when we were having a heatwave. It couldn't have been better timing! It is the perfect thickness and weight for the hot weather and I slept much better than I usually do when it is hot. Andy could really notice the difference to and he usually drives me crazy kicking a duvet off all over the place when he's too warm. I feel the cold really easy so as soon as the first sign of wind and rain came I attached the two together and have been using it as the winter duvet. I have been using it this way for a few weeks now and it is so warm and cosy. I can't believe how much difference one duvet has made to how well I sleep at night.

The all seasons duvet is machine washable and can be tumble dried on a low setting. I haven't got round to washing it yet as it still seems as good as new but the fact it can be unfastened is great as you can wash it and dry it in parts to make sure it gets washed and dried thoroughly.

The all seasons duvet comes in three different sizes; single bed 135 x 200cm, double bed 200 x 200cm or king size bed 225 x 220cm. It is also available in two different Togs 13.5 (4.5 + 9.0 = 13.5)  or 15.0 (4.5 + 10.5 = 15.0) The one I received was the 13.5 Tog which we have found has been more than warm enough for us. I think the 15.0 Tog would be great if you have a typically cold house.

I really love the idea behind this duvet and it really does fit its purpose it's definitely an item I think every household should have and would recommend it to anyone. I'm so glad I don't have to worry about my duvet being too hot in summer or too cold in winter now instead I have the perfect one for both!

The Slumberdown all seasons duvet is available to buy from Argos A single bed size is £24.99, double bed £29.99 and king size is £34.99. I think this is a very reasonable price for a good quality duvet!

We were sent the item featured free of charge for the purpose of this review. All views are my own.

amber anklets

Review & Competition: Amber Teething Anklets

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

When Gracie was a baby I was lucky enough to win an amber teething necklace in a competition. Up until then I couldn't quite believe that by simply wearing a piece of jewellery with no chewing involved could ease symptoms of teething. Once we started using it we had no problems whatsoever with teething we just noticed the slightly red cheeks and that was the only noticeable clue that she had teeth coming through.

I was recently sent an amber teething anklet from Amber Anklets for Zach to review. Of course this time round I already had the faith in the anklet to help him. It couldn't have come at a better time as Zach got his first tooth on Fathers Day and has been teething pretty bad ever since. He seems to be suffering more than Gracie ever did and he currently has his top front two teeth coming through and they look huge and sore bless him. He doesn't seem to be too bothered though apart from the chomping of everything in sight! He has had no high temperatures and a small amount of crying. I think we have had it easy so far with teething and I definitely think it is thanks to the amber teething jewellery. The anklet is not only made from natural amber which is known for its healing abilities but it is a safe way for him to wear jewellery all through the day with no worries of him hurting himself. Of course with necklaces you have to be aware of them pulling or catching it but the anklet if you are worried can be kept covered with a sock to keep it in place.

They say the darker the amber the more powerful it's healing abilities so we chose the darkest colour of course which is Dark Cherry but it is also available in dark honey, lemon, light honey, multicolour and rainbow. The anklets are available to buy at for £9.99. If you are worried about the choking hazards, you need not be as each bead has been individually hand knotted onto strong silk, meaning in the unlikely event of it breaking, only one bead will come loose.

I would definitely recommend this amber anklet for parents with teething babies. As well as being given one to review we have kindly been given two to give away so two lucky winners will receive one each. If you are not lucky enough to win or just want to buy one you can get 10% off with code 'new10' and delivery is free as standard.

Terms & Conditions
Open to UK only. The competition will end 24/09/2013 at 12am. The blog owner will choose the winner through the rafflecopter form (which uses The winner will be notified by email and displayed on the widget. The winner will then have 10 days to claim their prize. If the winner hasn't claimed their prize after 10 days another winner will be drawn. No alternative prize will be offered. Two winners will receive one dark cherry anklet each.

Review: Parragon Books: Wonderful Wildlife

Tuesday, September 03, 2013

As part of the Parragon book buddies club Gracie & Zach are lucky enough to receive copies of some of their new release books to review. I've always thought of reading with children as being very important and they both love having story time. Last time we received some fantastic baby books for Zach. You can read the review here. This time we received a copy of Charles Fuge's Wonderful Wildlife to review with Gracie.

Wonderful Wildlife is a counting book with lots of great illustrations to help kids with counting. Each page has animals and numbers such as two helpful whales and three friendly seabirds. This has come at a great time as Gracie can count from one to ten no problem she remembers the numbers but if I show her something and ask her how many there are she just guesses a number and can't get her head around applying the numbers. I'm hoping this book being able to count the animals together she will eventually learn that and even learn up to 20 which at the moment she can only do with help.

We have had lots of fun reading this book together and counting all the different animals. Her favourite is the 20 dinosaurs page as she loves the pictures. I love how educational the book is as well as having fun well thought pictures inside. I will definitely be using this book to help Zach learn his numbers when he's bigger too. I would definitely recommend this book for all preschool children and I am so glad we had the opportunity to review this book.

We were sent the item featured free of charge for the purpose of this review. All views are my own.

low fat crisps

Sponsored Review: Walkers Mighty Lights

Sunday, September 01, 2013

We are big crisp fans in our house. You may have seen our review of the Walkers Hoops & Crosses a few months back which went down a treat with Gracie. Well Walkers have a new tasty treat they wanted us to do the taste test on. Walkers Mighty Lights have 30% less fat than standard potato crisps and come in three delicious flavours, Cheese & Onion, Lightly Salted and Roast Chicken. The slogan for the Mighty Lights is 'Mighty in flavour. Lower in fat.' and they couldn't have described them any better! They contain no artificial colours or preservatives, No MSG and are suitable for vegetarians.

When our package of Mighty Lights arrived I was happy to see we had received a multipack of each flavour so we could all try the different flavours and decide which was whose favourite. The first ones to make the taste test was Lightly Salted, these were definitely my favourites, I usually find ready salted crisps bland but these are lightly seasoned with herbs and spices to give them a slight edge. Daddy and Gracie were both fans of these too and the packets soon disappeared in no time. They are definitely a flavour for all the family. Roast Chicken were Gracie's favourite, they were the first packet she went for when I gave her the choice everytime. I never got to try a full pack of the chicken, I just finished off whatever Gracie left in the packet each time and I have to say they are full of flavour I couldn't believe how tasty they were for low fat crisps! Cheese & Onion were Daddy's favourite and have been going into his lunchbox everyday for work. I don't like Cheese & Onion flavour crisps so couldn't bring myself to try them but Daddy said that they taste just like standard Cheese & Onion crisps so was happy to have a healthier alternative that was just as tasty.

Overall we were all very happy with the Mighty Lights. We all had our own favourites and will definitely be buying them with our shopping. They are a great size for lunchboxes but I would say they are slightly too big for Children of Gracie's age (she is almost three) but she just ate as much as she wanted and puts the rest away no problem. They would make a great guilt free treat for kids in their school packed lunches and are available to buy now in most supermarkets. I know I like to treat my kids to crisps, sweets etc. so I am always looking for slightly healthier alternatives to make me feel better about treating them! So I am very happy with this new offering from Walkers Crisps and am pleased that they are constantly looking for great tasting low fat recipes for their products.

You can find out more at and for the latest news and reviews you can find Walkers on twitter @walkers_crisps

We received the featured item free of charge and have received compensation for our time writing this review. All views and opinions are our own.
