Exploring Our New Area

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

We have been in our new house about 5 weeks now. The first few weeks flew by as we were so busy unpacking and decorating the boys bedroom but things have calmed down a bit now and we are finding time to explore our new area. We are so lucky to be surrounded by so much greenery now and everywhere you turn there are forests and fields. Towards the back of our house is a small forest area which is great for dog walkers and we have taken Dolly and Toby to play over there which the kids loved! Further down the road from our house is a park and nature reserve which is probably one of my favourite places to visit locally.

We have visited the nature reserve a few times now and have seen different things each time. The first visit was with all four kids on Fathers Day. We followed the trail until the end and on our journey we found lots of butterflies and other insects and we found a small lake surrounded by teeny tiny frogs. You could barely see them from afar. It simply looked like the earth itself was moving until we took a closer look. We crossed over little wooden bridges and through overgrown fields. We haven't yet seen any other people in there so it must be quite undisturbed.

The last time we went we decided to take my Dad and Stepmum with us to show them and see if we could find anything new. We were quite surprised to find hundreds of dragonflies at the lake this time. There were large adult dragonflies flying across the water and lots of babies on leaves and flying around the edge of the water. They were bright blue and incredibly beautiful to watch.

The kids now have their own set of binoculars for when we go on walks or to use in the garden as there is always something to see whether it be insects or birds or even sheep, horses and other farm animals in the distant fields.

It is amazing what we have already found right on our doorstep. Next we need to explore the local villages to see what else we can find and venture even further to local attractions. I love that everything is so new and we have so many new adventures to be had.
