Review: DC Superhero Girls Action Figures

Sunday, 10 July 2016

Finally there is a franchise specifically made up of female superheroes! It has been a long time coming and although Gracie has always been happy being a fan of superheroes, she has had comments from so many children saying that she can't like superheroes because they are for boys. Not anymore! The DC Superhero Girls range has a diverse line-up of kick ass female DC characters at that awkward teenage stage, finding their feet, making friends and of course discovering their unique abilities and superpowers. Each character has their own storyline and they are so relatable.

The main characters in the series are Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Bumble Bee and Katana, fans of the DC universe will spot many other DC characters with smaller roles throughout the shows. The DC Superhero Girls can be found in their new animated webisodes, TV Specials, and made for video movies as well as their own merchandise.

The merchandise is simply awesome. Mattel have created the first ever 6 inch action figure designed for girls; the first 12 inch collection of action dolls featuring strong, athletic bodies that stand on their own in heroic poses; and the first ever action role play toys for girls.

Gracie was sent two of the 6 inch action figures to try out. Wonder Woman with her lasso of truth. Wonder Woman's powers are super strength, flight, she is nearly invincible and she is super athletic. Bumblebee with her awesome bee-like wings. Bumblebees powers are enhanced strength, flight, ability to shrink and she can project sonic blasts. They both have quite a list of impressive powers.

Gracie is loving the figures, she has really been playing creatively and using her imagination to think up superhero storylines and giving them reasons to fly across the city. You can see in her video above, what she thinks of the action figures and some clips of them in action.

After her amazing school report last week we took Gracie to Toys R Us on Friday and let her choose a toy of her choice as a treat for such a good year at school and of course she went straight for the DC Superhero Girls range to make her choice. She was a bit disappointed that they were sold out of ALL Harley Quinn toys as she wanted a big Harley Quinn doll. She did opt for the 12 inch Supergirl though, as she has always loved that Supergirl looks like her and she will match Gracie's Supergirl dress. She has also insisted on making her own Supergirl video so you will have to watch out for that over the next week!

I am so impressed with the DC Superhero Girls toy range and I really hope that it does well and encourages a generation of little girls that they too can play with action figures and enjoy themselves! The characters are so cool and could be fantastic role models to young girls. I am really looking forward to watching all the shows and movies with my girls and seeing more merchandise come out. I will definitely be stocking up in the run up to Christmas for Gracie.

The 6 inch action figures have an RRP of £9.99 and the 12 inch action dolls have an RRP of £19.99. They are available at Toys R Us, Smyths Toy Superstores and Argos.
