Living Room Decor*

Tuesday, 1 March 2016

I am getting so close to finishing the renovation work on my kitchen and it is coming along brilliantly. There are still a few jobs left but we mainly have the cosmetic/finishing touches to do. I can't wait to show it off! Although I haven't actually finished yet, it hasn't stopped me thinking about my next project. Next I plan to redo our living room.

When we bought the house, out of all of the rooms, the living room was the most liveable which is why we decided to leave it until last. Although it is ok, it is not to my taste at all and I have been perusing Pinterest and many other home/interior websites looking for living room ideas.  We will be removing the big old fashioned fireplace, as it is too big and it has always irritated me that it is not in the centre of the room. For me, I love a cosy fire and want my fire to be the focal point of my living room. I want a plain wooden fire place and I will more than likely paint it a lovely colour with chalk paint to give it a shabby chic look.

I also want to replace our sofas, which after 3 babies and 3 house moves, have seen much better days. I paid a fortune for them in our first home but didn't think twice about the fact I was buying a material that didn't have washable covers and they sure aren't pretty now. As the kids are still young and messy, I will most likely opt for an Ikea sofa with washable cushion covers. They do quite nice ones and I have the urge to go for a cute grey colour this time. I am also tempted to get a nice armchair with a floor lamp by its side as I have always wanted to have a little corner where I can read in peace in the evenings.

I think my colour scheme will either be yellow/grey or duck egg blue/grey. I haven't quite found the perfect paper yet, although I have been lusting over everything from the Orla Kiely range. I generally decide on a colour scheme based on the wallpaper I choose!

I spend a lot of time in the living room so getting it right is so important. I want it to be cosy and homely but also a room I can look around and feel happy. I am at my happiest when my surroundings are tidy and clean and I can't wait to get started on this project.

    1. It takes us so long to finish a project here! Sometimes I just wish I could 'get on' and do it all myself. I love the decorating parts, it is the ripping things out and starting again that I can't do alone. I love the 'newness' too!

  2. We're trying to think about redecorating our lounge too. It's a big lounge/dining room and I've also been planning a little Orla Kiely wallpaper somewhere!

  3. Gosh yes material sofas and kids just don't bode well, I am so glad I went for leather before the kids arrive. Can't wait to see what it all looks like when the fire is out, a very big job
