Pumpkin Picking & Carving

Sunday, 1 November 2015

I have always wanted to go pumpkin picking yet it is something I have never done (along with berry picking). This year as I have made so much effort with Halloween I decided it was definitely time to go and pick our own pumpkins and do pumpkin carving with the kids. In fact I haven't carved a pumpkin since I was about 7 or 8 so I was probably just as excited as the kids. We decided to go with my friend and her family as our kids are all such good friends and we thought it would be really fun.

What we didn't expect was for it to be dark by the time we arrived at the farm and we found ourselves traipsing through a field in the dark with just a small torch to guide the way. It was definitely an experience! It was fun though and we eventually ended up with some nice orange pumpkins. We decided to get one for each of the kids including a cute tiny one for Elsie. I was quite surprised at how cheap it was, I had always thought it would be extortionate to pick your own.

Anyway, next it was time to carve our pumpkins...

I think I did a good job! I did Elsie's little pumpkin first and made her a shocked face pumpkin as she loves to pull a silly shocked face herself now! Then I asked Gracie what she wanted and of course she couldn't choose an easy face she wanted a My Little Pony Pumpkin so I searched Google for an easy looking image and drew her a Nightmare Moon which turned out quite good I think! Then Zach had to have a good one too and went for exactly what I thought he would and so I drew and carved out a Darth Vader for him. It took me so long to get them perfect but it was so worth it and we have had such an exciting Halloween this year that they are already looking forward to next year.
