National Trust: Canons Ashby

Thursday, 29 October 2015

Back in the Summer, we decided to invest in National Trust membership for Me and Andy (Its is free for children under 5). I have always loved reading about History and whenever we go away on holiday, we decide to visit local Castles to explore with the kids so we figured that buying an annual pass will also give us the excuse to visit all of our local National Trust properties.

As it is half-term and Halloween is almost here, I decided to look on the National Trust website to find what events they had on locally. There were so many to choose from but Canons Ashby has a pumpkin trail for children along with Halloween crafts in an outdoor tent. It sounded like the event they would love the most and was just 20 miles away so perfect for a family day out. We decided that although we could only go on a day the house was closed, the kids could have lots of fun and we could explore the gardens and I could take some nice photographs at the same time.

It was a bit cold and miserable but we wrapped up warm and stuck our wellies on! The kids loved the fresh air and couldn't wait to do the pumpkin trail. The gardens were really nice although not the easiest to manoeuvre with a pushchair but we managed. Gracie and Zach ran around with their little clipboards finding the correct pumpkins to tick off their lists so they could win a sticker.

We had a really lovely day and can't wait for our next National Trust visit. I am hoping to be able to revisit Canons Ashby next year so I can see inside the house and see the gardens in Spring time.

It is so nice to get out and about exploring the outdoors and learning with the kids. We are hoping we can find some nice Christmas events for our next visits!
