Haven Riviere Sands

Back in May we went on our annual Sun holiday to Haven. We usually choose a different site every year to try out and explore new surroundings but this year we went back to Riviere Sands holiday park which we actually visited just last year. We found that we enjoyed it so much that we wanted to go back again. Last year we had so much fun and had lots of fun days out yet still didn't pack in everything we wanted to do. It is also not far from my brother who lives in Falmouth so we can take a trip to see him whenever we are holidaying around Cornwall.

I remember saying last year that the beach at Riviere Sands was one of the most beautiful beaches I had come across in the UK and we couldn't wait to head back and let Elsie see it for her first ever trip to the seaside. This year we spent a whole 7 nights there, Andy booked the week and I booked the weekend to extend our stay. We stayed in a Luxury caravan which was lovely, quite small for a family of 5 with just the 2 bedrooms but it was a really nice and clean caravan.

The staff on site were all lovely from the reception to the cleaners and maintenance guy and especially the fun stars. We had a small problem when the kids dropped their toothpaste lid into the sink and it blocked the sink! After reporting the problem it took less than 10 minutes for the guy to come and fix it for us.

For us the FunStars were amazing this year! We have been going on Haven holidays every year now for almost 5 years and it is the first time we have spent so much time with them. The kids took a huge shine to three of the members and they really did help make the kids holiday extra special. Just the little things like remembering their names, involving them in games and activities and making them laugh meant that the kids loved them and were gutted to leave them at the end of the holiday. Fun stars Jamie, Tina and Callie were all amazing and the entertainment both in the daytime and evening was lots of fun! Thanks Jamie, Tina & Callie for making the kids holiday so special. Even now two months on Gracie has declared she wants to be a Fun Star when she is bigger!

You can't talk about a Haven holiday without mentioning the seaside squad. We went to Riviere Sands this year with just a cuddly Anxious and Bradley (which the kids have slept with every single day for well over a year) and so the kids are very attached to them. They were so unbelievably excited to see them in real life! So excited in fact that they spent all of their spending money on the other characters between them meaning we came home with the entire seaside squad! The kids also loved the characters breakfast held on Monday and Friday at The Bluff Inn restaurant just off site. The character entertainment was great this year. The kids loved Greedy's party in the dark and Rory's Birthday party.

We actually went swimming this year with all three kids, we didn't go last year as I was heavily pregnant and the last thing I wanted was to get in a swimming costume. The swimming pool was great and the changing area was very clean and spacious. We could keep our pushchair and belongings in view from the pool and we were even allowed, with permission, to take photos of Elsie's first time in the pool as long as we didn't get anyone else in the background of our photos. I love that Haven allow you to do this as it is a really special moment for any baby and it was nice for us to get a few photo's to remember the day.

The only thing that disappointed me about Riviere Sands this year was that it seems like it has really been let go and is in desperate need of refurbishment. It has such great potential with the great location and the size of the park but the lack of choice when it comes to food can be a problem, they could do with more than an overpriced (and not particularly good) fish and chip shop and an off site restaurant. The restaurant is great but it isn't cheap so not somewhere you would eat regularly. Also the entertainment area, where all the daily activities are held along with the night time entertainment, smelt overwhelmingly of damp every time we went in there and on the first night we went to sit on one of the back bench seats to find woodlouse crawling on it! We ended up sitting right by the dance floor after that put us off and it was fine over there. It would be nice to see them fix these problems though as it is such a shame when everything else about the park is excellent.

The beach at Riviere Sands is just perfect. No matter what the weather, it is always pretty to look at. In fact one morning I got up early and went for a run along the beach and it was lovely! I don't usually get such breathtaking views when going out for a run. It is a shame that the one time we all got to get on the beach the weather wasn't great and the water was freezing so only me and Gracie were brave enough for a paddle. It was lots of fun having a family stroll on the beach and playing in the sand though.

One of my favourite things about Riviere Sands is the location. There is so much to do locally for people of all ages! This year we had a day at St. Ives, a trip to Falmouth and visited Roskilly's Dairy Farm and St Michaels Mount. The rest of the time we spent joining in with activities or doing things on site.

We had a lovely holiday at Riviere Sands and are now looking forward to our next Haven holiday to Doniford Bay next April!
