Review Part One: iCandy Strawberry 2

20:55:00

iCandy are a manufacturer of British designed luxury pushchairs and accessories. All of the pushchairs in the iCandy range are made to the highest quality. They have a diverse range to suit the needs for many different parents including some of the best single and tandem pushchairs on the market.

Over the last three months, we have been testing one of their latest releases, the iCandy Strawberry 2. I have so much to say on this pushchair after three months of use that I have decided to write my review in two parts. This first part will cover the use of the iCandy Strawberry 2 in the first six months in carrycot mode. I will then later cover the use of the iCandy Strawberry 2 with a baby six months plus, in regular seat mode.

Upon receiving the pushchair, I immediately unboxed ready to build. It was very simple to build. I managed to put it together in around 20 minutes whilst alone with three young children trying to carefully read instructions. Now that is impressive. One of the unique points when looking at this pushchair is that the main seat frame is used for both the carrycot and seat. The carrycot is completely collapsible with compact fold for easy storage when not in use and the fact it is put together using the main frame means it is very sturdy so they haven't compromised on the quality when putting together this design. To put together, the carrycot fabric pops open and a plastic base is slotted in underneath. The carrycot then fixes to the seat frame with velcro ties and metal poppers. I know this is hard to explain so I found a brilliant video showing how this is done so you can see underneath here .

The iCandy Strawberry 2 has six different coloured 'flavour packs' available; Anthracite (Black), Dune(Beige), Lush(Red), Pacific(Blue), Prism(Purple) and Smoothie(Pink). The flavour packs consist of an interchangeable hood to fit both carrycot and seat unit, carrycot apron, seat liner and harness chest pads. The flavour packs allow you to swap and change colours if you fancy a bit of a change! Our Strawberry 2 is in Lush and I love the colour, it is a really bright beautiful shade of red. I am also a huge fan of Prism which is a gorgeous purple colour. It is also available with either a chrome or black chassis. My one pictured has the chrome chassis.

When folded the chassis itself folds quite small for a travel system and is actually freestanding. The only thing you may want to consider is the size of the carrycot. We have a Ford Fiesta and the boot isn't particularly big. We can fit the pushchair and carrycot in the boot though as long as we remove the bumper bar which is easily detached. If you have a narrow boot you could also remove the back wheels as they are really easily removed and reattached by just simply pressing the small button in the centre of the wheel.

The carrycot is advised for the first six months for both the safety and comfort of baby. I had never really been a fan of carrycots until using this one. The fact it was put together easily and is so easily attached to the chassis are important factors but also the size of the carrycot is really impressive. This is Elsie at six months old. She is still really happy in her carrycot and as you can see (below) she has plenty of room left to remain in it longer. The carrycot is very sturdy and one of my main concerns before trying it out was that going up and down curbs everyday she would be at risk of tipping or slipping around. I feel silly now as we have has no problems at all, in fact I can honestly say she is more comfortable in there than she has been in any other pushchair and even naps in there for a few hours every morning.

The iCandy Strawberry 2 comes with a fantastic rain cover that fits both carrycot and seat unit. I actually really like the way it looks on the carrycot with the black over the hood and base with the clear part just where you can see the inside of the carrycot. Only iCandy can make even a raincover look stylish. The carrycot remains completely dry thanks to the rain cover as no part is left exposed. The raincover pops over the carrycot nice and easy and fastens together with velcro just underneath the bumper bar.

Although the basket doesn't look particularly big in photographs, it is quite deceiving. It is a unique shape as far as pushchair baskets go and I regularly store the rain cover and school bags etc in the basket for the school runs with no problems at all. I do however need to remember not to put loose sheets of paper in the basket on a windy day as running down the road after a toddlers drawing blowing in the wind isn't fun!

The pushchair itself is lovely to push. The 5 position extendible handle height makes it comfortable to steer for people of all heights. The front wheels can be locked in either a swivel or fixed position making them suitable for different terrains. We love to take the pushchair out for long walks at the park and find it really handy to use in all weathers. The carrycot keeps Elsie warm and dry and it pushes like a dream even in the sludgy mud as you can see in the picture below with the thick mud all over the wheels! Also the wheels clean up great especially if you have a pressure washer, ours look like new when given a good clean.

The iCandy Strawberry 2 is the perfect pushchair for city living. We have used it on buses and trains and I use it daily for the school runs. It is my go to pushchair each and every day, I actually packed away my Stokke Xplory the day I built the Strawberry 2 and haven't used it once since. I couldn't think of a better example of an all in one pushchair, you really don't need any spares. Now I am hoping that I am just as impressed when we make the switch to the seat unit.

The iCandy Strawberry 2 bundle costs £550 and includes

  • Flavour pack
  • Pushchair
  • Carrycot fabrics
  • Car seat adapters

Price wise I think that the iCandy Strawberry 2 is worth every penny. I paid almost £400 for my first ever pushchair which was a horrific oversized Mothercare travel system and I hugely regret not paying that bit extra for a better quality pushchair. You get everything that is needed to use the pushchair in the bundle and iCandy also sell a large range of accessories that can be used with the pushchair including a luxury fleece footmuff which I will also write about in my next review.

The iCandy Strawberry 2 is available to buy here in the iCandy store.

  14. Hi, thank you for the review. I am thinking about buying this pushchair but I found it difficult to collapse when trying it out at the store. The store attendant said it gets easy with a bit of practise. Can you make a comment on that?

    1. Hi Tammy, Yes I found it a bit difficult the first few times, but once I got the hang of it it seemed so easy. I can now easily do it one handed! If you have any other questions feel free to pop me an email (carlymarkham@hotmail.co.uk) always happy to help x

  15. Thank you for the brilliant article! I am looking to buy this pushchair as it is the only one I like of all of them, including iCandy. Suits my taste the best. However, there is one concern which none of the shops could clear up for me. People say that the iCandy hoods click very loudly when adjusting. I have tried other hoods on Peach 3 and Apple 2 Pear in store and they clicked horribly. The assistant commented that on the new models they use different materials now so it doesn't click. However, they didn't have any of the new hoods in store to show me.
How did you find the hood on yours? Does it click as well? Or is it quiet? Thank you.
