Mother's Day Guide

Friday, February 27, 2015

With Mother's Day coming up on March 15th I thought I would share a few great ideas with you. If you are looking for something unique this year then look no further.

Funky Giraffe Bibs

This is one for a new Mum. Funky Giraffe Bibs is my favourite brand of dribble bibs after finding them when Zach was a baby. They are great quality and keep babies clothes lovely and dry. These cute Mother's Day themed bibs would be a great addition to a baby/toddler's outfit on Mother's Day. You can find these ones and a few other 'Mum' themed bibs at www.funkygiraffebibs.co.uk

Is It Time To Invest In A New Television?

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

As we don't really go out much and have a lack in babysitting offers, one thing that me and Andy really enjoy is to spend time together watching movies or starting new TV Series on Amazon Prime Instant Video. Our current TV is a 32 inch average TV and was actually bought by Andy before we even met over 6 years ago so it is getting on a bit! We also have a slightly smaller 26 inch Panasonic TV in our bedroom which was my first big investment when I first upped my hours at work probably 5 years ago.

They have definitely evolved a lot since the last time I went television shopping! There are all sorts of new developments such as Panasonic 4K TVs. We are also still heavily renovating our house and making it all look nice, with the living room being the next on our list. So is it time we replace our years old telly? Do we save for a modern state of the art television? or do we simply wait until this one gives in?

I am trying to justify it by saying it is one of our most used gadgets and we have looked after our current one very well. I do however worry with three children under five, whether it would be tempting fate to buy an expensive TV just yet. Maybe it is worth saving up for a few years and waiting until it is less likely to be damaged. I am definitely the person who would buy a new TV for Elsie to knock it down once she starts to attempt climbing or for Gracie and Zach to fall into it whilst fighting! Which reminds me actually I do need to invest in something to safely secure my TV to prevent it falling now that Elsie is getting bigger and the TV is more accessible than at our previous houses.

Days Out: Coombe Abbey Country Park

Monday, February 23, 2015

As you may have noticed I got a lovely new camera for Christmas and so am now practising with my photography skills. The kids love going to our local park and so when we went over the weekend I decided to take my camera to try and capture some memories. We spent a whole 2 hours walking around the whole park, jumping in puddles, playing in the trees and finding little dens.

I just love looking at these pictures and although they are not perfect, I love looking at the smiles and remembering all the fun we had that day! To me capturing action shots and those cheeky smiles that I see every day is what is important. Here are a few of my favourites from our little day out;

The photos were all taken at Coombe Abbey Country Park. A beautiful local park that is totally worth a visit if you are ever in or around the Coventry area!

Children's Road Safety Quiz

Thursday, February 19, 2015

Being a parent of three young children, teaching them road safety is very important to me. Even more so after seeing my own brother hit by a car while we were young and messing around by a busy road. Children tend to follow a parents lead and if you don't set the perfect example when it comes to road safety then how can you expect them to learn. I try to exaggerate when looking both ways and ask the kids if they can see any cars looking before we cross. By making it a fun game I hope that it will become second nature to them so they automatically do the same even if I am not with them. Of course as they get older they will be taught more in depth about the possible dangers.

There is a great road safety quiz which has been put together by rentalcars.com for you to test yourself and your children. The questions cover the obvious and the slightly more obscure road safety points. For example, have you taught your children the importance of knowing which colour clothes to wear when dark? You might be able to use the quiz as a tool for tips on what to teach them if you haven't yet gone through the subject. There are 10 questions altogether. Can you get 10 out of 10?  You can take the quiz below.

Now I would love to know what are your top tips for teaching road safety?

Review: Spicers Of Hythe Chocolate Feast Hamper

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

A hamper tradition since 1926, Spicers of Hythe - Hampers of Distinction are the luxury hamper specialists to provide the perfect gift

If you are stuck for ideas for the perfect gift this Valentine's Day, why not buy a luxury food hamper? Whether your partner is a cheese lover or a chocolate lover. They have something for all budgets and tastes. You can find their Valentine's Day range here.

We were asked to review a hamper of our choice and as Me and Andy both have a sweet tooth, we decided on the Chocolate Feast Hamper.

Contents:

Belgian Dark Chocolate Thins 125g

These chocolate thins are a great light snack. Made with intense dark chocolate. I have to say they weren't the most interesting part of the hamper but good none the less.

Monty Bojangles Chocolate Truffles 100g

The Monty Bojangles truffles were such a treat. I like to sneak one at a time while I am doing jobs around the Kitchen. They are incredibly moreish!

Divine Mint Dark Chocolate Bar 100g

Unfortunately Andy doesn't like mint chocolate which meant I had to try this all by myself. Luckily I love mint chocolate and loved having a few small pieces of this chocolate each day a as a naughty treat.

Franks Raspberry & White Chocolate Butter Bites 150g

These were by far the most popular item in the hamper for us. They are great quality buttery biscuits containing small raspberry pieces and tiny white chocolate chunks.

Radfords Chocolate & Caramel Fudge West Country Fudge Bag 113g

I am a huge fan of fudge and everyone knows the West Country is THE place to get the best tasting fudge. The Radfords chocolate & caramel fudge was a well received addition to the hamper and disappeared very quickly!

Sally Williams Dark Chocolate Coated Nougat 50g

This won't surprise you but I loved this. I really like Nougat but very rarely buy it so it was a lovely treat to come across in the hamper.

Simpkins Orange & Lime Chocolate Confectionary 175g

Andy really liked these! They are sweets with a chocolate centre. I wasn't so keen. They were ok but seem a strange combination to me. On the plus side it is something Andy can have to himself which he certainly hasn't complained about. The orange flavour are his favourites.

Overall, the hamper has been a big success for us. We both found new products that we wouldn't ordinarily buy but now love and we got a few of our favourite kind of items thrown in the mix. The contents may vary slightly but any items will be substituted for a similar item of equal or greater value.

The hamper costs £24.43 to buy and is presented in a lovely hamper basket. I definitely think it is great value for money and one of the best quality hampers I have ever received. It would make a great gift for Valentines Day, Mother's Day or even Easter! I find hampers are a fantastic gift for any occasion and Spicers Of Hythe obviously know what they are doing!

The Chocolate Feast Hamper is available to order here.

Week 6 Day 32-39 #Project365

Monday, February 09, 2015

Sunday 1st February 2015

Another week , another pretty smile picture from Elsie. I am trying to capture as many pictures of her first year as possible to look back on and she loves to smile for the camera!

Monday 2nd February 2015

Most Monday evenings I have all three kids by myself while Andy is working and we love to spend the time, watching movies, reading books and being silly. I love the kids faces in these pics, they really are crazy!

Tuesday 3rd February 2015

After seeming to be getting better the past few days Zach suddenly went downhill Tuesday and spent most of the day snuggling me and sleeping.

Wednesday 4th February 2015

Wednesday Andy finished work early so we popped to Ikea for dinner and a bit of shopping where I treated the kids to new dressing up hats. Despite feeling poorly, Zach was still eager to pose for a photo in his cute new hat.

Thursday 5th February 2015

I spent the weekend rearranging Gracie's bedroom and having a bit of a clear out as I was itching to get Elsie's cot up for her. I finally found a bit of time to build it Thursday and surprisingly it took me less than half an hour! I now need to buy a mattress for it though before she can move in there. I'm a bit nervous about the girls sharing a bedroom, such a huge step!

Friday 6th February 2015

I genuinely love this photo of Elsie. My Grandma had picked Gracie up from school for me Friday while I took Zach to the doctors and so I picked her up on the way home and came across this picture of me as a baby and took it over to Elsie to compare. The fact that she gripped it perfectly and pulled the exact same face was a complete coincidence. I think she definitely looks like her Mummy!

Saturday 7th February 2015

I have been looking for a beginners workout to ease myself into as three c-sections has kind of destroyed my stomach muscles. I bought this off Amazon and Saturday was my first day trying it. It has certainly not been easy but I am really enjoying it (now on day 3) and am feeling energised and motivated. I will blog about how I get on when I get a chance!

Sunday 8th February

Sunday I decided if I was going to be serious about exercising and losing weight I needed to be well equipped so I popped to Decathlon and invested in some new weights, fitness leggings and top. Best of all it came to less than £15 for the lot.

Valentines Day Gift Guide

Sunday, February 08, 2015

Valentines Day is fast approaching and more and more people are looking online for the perfect gifts. Here are a few suggestions for those of you still looking for that perfect gift!

GettingPersonal.co.uk

These personalised 'Love' Champagne flutes would make a lovely gift to treasure for many more occasions to come. Enjoy a romantic meal for two or a nice film whilst sipping a glass of bubbly. A truly unique gift idea to present to your loved one this Valentines Day. The set of glasses costs just £19.99 which I think is fantastic value for money.

These lovingly hand carved marble coasters from Marbletree are available in a dark or cream marble and come in a set of two. They look and feel lovely to hold and would be another great addition to your Valentine Day dining set up or if you are planning on serving breakfast in bed, they would be great for holding a nice cup of tea! For £20 for a set of two presented in a gift box, they make a great gift and a great investment.

The Art Of  Couples Conversation

'The talking game that has couples talking' The art of couples conversation is a game aimed at getting couples talking about their relationship more in depth than they may usually dare to go. It is a very interesting game and can be a great way to show some appreciation for your other half or to get some things off your chest in a light-hearted way. Each game card has three questions or statements and you choose the one you would like to ask and give them time to answer with no interference. The game would make a great Valentines Day gift and a good conversation starter, especially for parents trying to avoid the usual talk about the children over Valentines Day dinner. You can find the game here.

Godiva Chocolates

These yummy chocolates from Godiva. The Valentine sweethearts chocolate box contains six pieces of their most seductive and well loved pieces and would make an excellent gift for your Valentine. At £15 they are not the cheapest of chocolates but with chocolate you are always paying for quality!

Pillowcases

These 'Love Whispers' pillow cases are a really cute way to dress the bed for Valentine's Day or would make a great unique gift for your loved ones. There are other designs in the range of Love pillow cases and they are all equally as cute! Each pair of pillowcases will cost you £16.99 which I think is a fantastic price for such a quirky gift!

Raisthorpe

If you fancy something a little different to drink this Valentines Day? Well if you are a lover of cocktails the 9ct Toffee Vodka Liqueur and the 9ct Blood Orange Vodka Liqueur are certainly a new interesting choice! As you can see above they both make for some colourful cocktails and they taste great! (Personally I am a huge cocktail fan and would definitely recommend experimenting with these). The Port and Whisky liqueurs would also make great gifts if you are not a lover of Vodka. In fact if you can't make your mind up which you like, all are available in 5cl miniature bottles, starting from £3.50 each, so you can put together your own tasty hamper for your loved one to try! You can find the whole range of products in the online shop here.

Gracie: My First Home

Monday, February 02, 2015

Gracie has been tasked with creating a post about what she loves most about her 'first home' now this isn't the first house she has lived in but it is 'our first home'. A first home can be a very important memory for children. I have lots of fond memories of mine, had favourite hiding places I used to make dens in and at the end of our front garden there was a wood full of trees to climb. We actually live quite close to my first home and near that same wood and I hope that my children have as many happy memories in this home as I did in mine. Gracie was gifted a Vtech Kidizoom Twist camera especially for this extra special project and she has had lots of fun taking part. Now we had a bit of trouble making videos they all were complete fails so we decided she could take photos of her favourite things in her favourite rooms and tell us what she loves and why.

A lot of our house is still a work in progress but the kids rooms have been decorated and are the main ones she wanted to show off along with the bath which is where the kids love to play with their bath toys and the living room where they have their own special toy corner.

After taking the photographs I interviewed Gracie asking her what she likes about our home. Bear in mind this is a 4 year old in her first ever video (and sorry I have tonsillitis so I'm not so loud myself!). She won't be invited on Jonathan Ross anytime soon ;) You can see the interview below.

Week 5 Day 26-31 #Project365

Sunday, February 01, 2015

Monday 26th January 2015

Everybody loves a sweet treat and I was very happy to have this lovely Valentines Day hamper arrive Monday! I will be writing a review soon but couldn't help sharing a pic of it in all it's glory!

Tuesday 27th January 2015

I popped to Tesco Tuesday evening to get supplies for my trip to London the following day and whilst shopping came across this bag in the sale that fits my camera and lens in perfectly along with a few other blogging essential supplies!

Wednesday 28th January 2015

Wednesday was the day me and Elsie went to London to see the Nutmeg SS15 collection of children's clothing. I loved all the bright colours and it made me so excited for this Summer to arrive!

Thursday 29th January 2015

This is a cheat one as it was actually taken on Wednesday but had forgotten and came across it Thursday and really like it. I don't have many pictures of me and Zach.

Friday 30th January 2015

Friday I had a Topshop delivery. Some hats I ordered in their online sale. Of course the children pinched them straight away but it kept them quiet while I was feeling really poorly!

Saturday 31st January 2015

Gracie is a little poser and always asks for her picture taken. I however much prefer more natural pictures and so pulled lots of silly faces to make her laugh and caught this cute smile.
