George At Asda: Elsie's Day Out

Thursday, December 31, 2015

What I really love to do in the days between Christmas and New Year is to take the kids out on long walks. After day's cooped up playing with toys and indulging ourselves with food and desserts, it is so nice to get outdoors. Just before Christmas I was asked by George at Asda if I would like to choose an outfit from their clothing range for Elsie for a day out and I thought that it would be lovely to choose her something festive to wear over the holidays but warm for all our outdoor play.

I opted for this beautiful dress which was only £8! A luxurious red faux fur coat for £12 and some lovely frilly tights that come in a pack of three for £5. I love that all three coloured tights (navy/red/cream) match the dress perfectly so we have the option of which colour to wear and can even have a spare pair in the change bag in case of any accidents.

On Boxing Day I took the kids to play out with their friends (they have a lovely group of slightly older girls in our street who they play with a lot) and they all love it when I take Elsie out with them. She did us a little fashion show in the garden showing the older kids her pretty dress and then she held onto my hands and we went for a nice walk. Typically Andy wasn't there to be my photographer so I only got photos of her showing off her dress. I do have a cute picture of her asleep in her car seat in her pretty coat. This photo was actually at Gracie's birthday party where she crawled in her seat and fell asleep (I strapped her in to avoid any kids trying to pick her up or her falling out trying to get out herself).

I was simply amazed at the low price of her outfit and absolutely love the clothes range at Asda. To think we got a complete outfit including a coat which will be worn regularly and tights for everyday use for just £25 is brilliant. I love an excuse to dress my kids up nice whether we are going out or not. Even if it is just to go out and play with their friends in the street or a walk to visit friends or family.

Homemade Decorations With Sharpie

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

I love crafting and this Christmas project has been great fun. I was recently sent a present box full of craft goodies from Sharpie and for the past few weeks I have sat quietly crafting whenever I get a peaceful hour. It is amazing what you can do with a couple of Sharpie pens, from creating home made decorations, up-cycling old tatty decorations or even personalising your own wrapping paper or gift tags.

Christmas Gift Guide for Children

Friday, December 18, 2015

Now I find buying presents for my own children really easy. I know what they like and I know exactly what will have them excitedly jumping up and down Christmas morning. I do find buying presents for other people's children a horrific experience. So I thought I would share some gift ideas with you all if you find yourself lacking inspiration for either your own or someone else's child.

Costa Christmas Festive Drinks

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

I genuinely get excited every year at the return of the Christmas menu at Costa after discovering their White Hot Chocolate a few years ago. Along with the special festive drinks, the Christmas season also brings the festive cups! This year I finally have me some of their amazing ceramic cups. The ceramic cups come in Snowman, Santa and Penguin designs and they are great at keeping your drink hotter for longer.

Review: Koodi Bath Toys

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

As Koodi ambassadors, we get the fun job of testing out their great range of products. The latest items we were sent to review were their three bath toys; Pour n' Play, Spray n' Play and Sprinkle n' Play. All three bath toys are suitable from 10 months and although they look very simplistic, they do exactly the kind of things that appeal to babies and toddlers. I actually tend to bath all three kids together most of the time and so they always have fun playing together as part of their bath time routine.

Review: Cruzee Balance Bike

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

This is one of the most exciting reviews I have done in a while. Mainly as I knew that it would be a huge hit with Zach and I love to see him so excited over things. With Christmas approaching, I had been looking at Balance Bikes and just didn't know where to start or which brands were better than others etc. then Skates.co.uk came to my rescue. They sell lot's of great products including skates, scooters, bikes and accessories and they just so happen to stock balance bikes. They sent us the Cruzee balance bike in green to review.

Shopping For Kitchen Appliances*

Sunday, December 13, 2015

Last week we begun work on our new kitchen. Yes, we decided that three weeks before Christmas would be the perfect time to rip out our old kitchen and start again ourselves. It has been so stressful and there is still so much to be done. Fingers crossed it will be usable come Christmas day so we can have a nice Christmas dinner!

It has taken two years for me to save enough money to start this work and doing the work ourselves has enabled me to do everything exactly how I want. I got to spend a little more on the range cooker I wanted and still have some left over to spend on some new kitchen appliances. I am really excited for the building work to be done so I can do some shopping. I would love a combination microwave oven fitted to the wall, a small thing but I have never had this and would love to have lots of uncluttered work surfaces! Another thing I have always wanted is a four slice toaster. Having three kids wanting breakfast at the same time, I can find myself stood around the toaster for ages while they argue about who gets theirs first, I have spotted some cute vintage looking toasters online so they are definitely on my wishlist. Of course, I will then need a matching kettle as everything has to be colour coordinated.

The whole look I am hoping for with my kitchen is a shabby chic look. I have chosen grey doors for my units, a wooden work surface and duck egg blue tiles for the walls. I am so so excited to see it all come together and so glad I don't have to look at the tatty old kitchen we have lived with again.

Christmas Gift Guide- Babies 0- 18 months

Friday, December 11, 2015

Babies can be the hardest to buy for. If they are brand new how about you think about putting a small hamper of nice but practical items for them. It is something that would probably be really appreciated. I have a few recommendations for hamper items here along with some great ideas for main presents for slightly older babies.

Christmas with Cadbury's

Thursday, December 10, 2015

I absolutely love Cadbury's chocolate and I think that they are a big part of Christmas. From the 1st December when it is time to open up the first door of a Cadbury's advent calendar to New Year when you are desperately trying to finish the Cadbury's Heroes before the diet starts on January 1st. Well I was very lucky to be sent some of the Cadbury's Christmas range to try out.

Enchanted Christmas Kingdom at Hatton Adventure World

Tuesday, December 08, 2015

On Saturday we headed to Hatton Country World for the Enchanted Christmas Kingdom experience. As Andy was working, I asked my Dad to come along with us. My Dad used to take me and my brother to Hatton a lot while we were growing up and so it was really nice to go back with him. The kids adore my Dad and don't get to go out with him often which made them even more excited.

Review: Fisher Price Charisma Trike

Friday, December 04, 2015

I have always wanted a trike like this but with Gracie and Zach I ended up buying character trikes, which the kids loved but they were not very strong or hard-wearing and were so hard to push and steer! I was so excited when Elsie was offered a Fisher Price Charisma 3 in 1 trike to review.

Competition: The Old Street Barber co Beard Oil

Wednesday, December 02, 2015

I can happily say as a 20-something woman I am not the proud owner of a beard and so I do not know much about them. What I can say is that beards are cool. A beard should always be groomed and looked after. I genuinely cringe seeing big frizzy beards full of crumbs but I am a fan of a nice groomed hipster beard. The Old Street Barber co specialise in beard oils made from 100% natural ingredients rather than some of the nasty, full of chemicals options you will find in most supermarkets.

Christmas Book Advent

Tuesday, December 01, 2015

For the past two years I have made a book advent for the kids and it has become quite a tradition. I choose 24 books. Some old. Some new. A mix of some of our favourite family stories, classic Christmas selections and a few new exciting books thrown in the mix.

For me, it is about spending a little bit of time together enjoying a nice story. We do read all year around but you don't get to read in front of a Christmas tree surrounded by magical lights all year around do you? We love to sit in the warm living room, snuggled under a blanket while the kids take it in turns each day to open up the next book ready to read.

It doesn't need to be an expensive tradition. In fact it doesn't have to cost you more than the money for wrapping paper and tape. My kids have not once asked why their books have been wrapped up or questioned why they are not all new books. They love the book advent and the extra special bit of family time it gives us.

Our books are bought by our special Elf, I like to use an Elf just to bring exciting activities for the kids to do over Christmas and to make Christmas seem even more magical. You don't need an Elf to do a book advent though! This year I have displayed them with the smallest at the top and the largest at the bottom so it looks a bit like a tree shape!

Peter Pan & Wendy at Royal Shakespeare Theatre

Monday, November 30, 2015

Friday night, Me, Andy and Gracie got to spend some much needed time alone to take Gracie to the theatre for the first time. We were lucky enough to be given tickets to attend Peter Pan & Wendy at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford. Adapted by Ella Hickson from the novel by JM Barrie, the show brings the story of Peter Pan & Wendy to life.

Santas Magical Grotto at House of Fraser

Thursday, November 26, 2015

On Tuesday evening, the five of us headed to Birmingham straight from picking up Gracie at school for a special VIP event at House of Fraser. We got to have experience their amazing Santa's Magical Grotto ahead of the opening to the public on Saturday 28th November. The House of Fraser Santa's grotto features traditional style shop fronts and a log cabin which houses Santa himself along with his mischievous elves.

The grotto is built entirely by volunteers from the House of Fraser team with all proceeds going to Harry Moseley's charity Help Harry Help Others. It is the third year running that they have supported this charity and even have boxes of bracelets on sale for a £1 donation each on one of the activity tables.

Review: Diono Travel Changer

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

I have only recently discovered the brand Diono. Diono sell a huge range of products which help busy families, combining safety and convenience to make the perfect baby products. I was recently sent the Diono Travel Changer to try out and see if it is really as handy as it looks.

The Diono Travel Changer is a great space saving nappy changing solution. It is a clutch style bag which contains a foldable change mat, which simply velcro's open or shut for one handed access, and a reusable soft wipes pouch. It has a very handy wrist strap which can obviously hang from your wrist or could also be used to attach to a stroller/trike etc. It also has room inside for 2 or 3 nappies and a full packet of wet wipes.

I thought this product would be perfect for me to attach to the pushchair on the school run. I have found myself half way to school in the morning to realise Gracie has a mixture of breakfast and toothpaste smudged around her mouth more times than I would like to admit and of course when running out in the morning I never bother picking up the change bag, we have enough to carry and fill the pushchair basket. I have also found myself 'popping in' to a friends or my Grandmas house on the way back from school just for the baby to poo and me have to run home in a panic. So the last few weeks I have tried the travel changer out to see if it makes my life a bit easier.

I like to wrap the strap around the handle a few times to steady it a little as my pushchair is parent facing and the bag would likely fall near to her and she would helpfully open and empty the contents everywhere. I have only really 'needed' it a few times but those few times I really appreciated it. With Elsie teething and Zach constantly poorly, we quite often have snotty noses and with this cold weather I find they seem to get it worse. So there has been a few occasions where I would usually panic and use whatever I can find to wipe them up and I have quite handily had a pack of wet wipes in the travel changer to use instead. I have made a mental note to add a pack of tissues to the bag too.

I think the travel changer would be good to keep inside a larger change bag too. If you are out for the day and need to pop to the loo to change the baby you can simply grab the travel changer out of the main change bag to take with you and save rummaging for the things you need in the toilet whilst juggling a baby. I really do like the travel changer and can see us using it a lot.

The Diono Travel Changer has a RRP of £20 and is available from Uber Kids.

Mega Bloks Thomas & Friends Zooming Along at Brendam Docks

Thursday, November 19, 2015

We have reviewed a few Thomas & Friends items recently as Zach has become a huge fan. We were recently offered the Mega Bloks Zooming Along at Brendam Docks play set to review.

It’s another busy day in Sodor and Thomas is Zooming Along at Brendam Docks by Mega Bloks Thomas & Friends™! Now your little conductor can supervise all the activity at the bustling port, as the new motorised Thomas the Tank Engine actually chuffs along the dock’s looping tracks. Send Thomas through the Sodor Shipping Co. warehouse, past the checkpoints, under the coal chute, and over the elevated bridge! Cranky the Crane is there to help too, with his working lifting hook for heavy loads. But the two are happiest when working together, and when Thomas passes by, Cranky starts to spin! Build the docks and track, and use the stickers to add detail to blocks. It’s all in a day’s work with Thomas and Cranky!

The Mega Bloks Thomas & Friends Zooming Along at Brendam Docks play set is huge! With 107 seperate pieces. It is aimed at children aged 2-5 so the pieces are a good size and not small enough to be swallowed (which is important to us with Elsie getting her hands on everything). It is easy and fun to put together. It did take longer than expected the first time but I did have to add the stickers and step by step follow the instructions with an excited Zach helping me find the right bricks.

Thomas is motorised which makes it really fun for Zach. He has a motorised Thomas train already so already understands how to use him and make him move around the track. Cranky can actually spin too so your child can make him pick things up and hold them. Zach's favourite part is the coal chute. He is nowhere near quick enough at opening it so that it falls into the empty carriage but finds it very funny to try.

I really like that you can play around and change the bridge and arches. It is like no other train set. Your child can really use their imagination to create something different.

Mega Bloks Thomas & Friends Zooming Along at Brendam Docks has a RRP of £49.99.

Review & Competition: Ellie Bean Prints A4 Print

Monday, November 16, 2015

I was recently offered a print of my choice from Ellie Beans Prints. As I have recently decorated my bedroom and created myself a nice desk area, I decided that what I really wanted was a nice motivational quote to look at whilst working at my desk. I had almost been tempted by the family prints but I would have liked one in my Kitchen or hall, both of which are still on my decorating to do list so can wait until they are done. I couldn't quite find a quote that I felt suited me on the EllieBean Prints website, although they have lot's of great ones I felt that I wanted something 'different'. So I decided to use their bespoke service and come up with my own.

My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Friendship Games

Sunday, November 15, 2015

Gracie is really into My Little Pony Equestria Girls since watching the Rainbow Rocks movie earlier this year. She collects the dolls and has plenty on her list to Santa this year. The Equestria Girls movies are really nice films that she can happily watch alone in her bedroom when she wants to. All of the problems the girls come across can be solved by the power of friendship, which is how we all know My Little Pony to be and is definitely a lesson I want Gracie to take note of!

Christmas is Coming!

Thursday, November 12, 2015

For some, the Christmas buzz is starting to sink in. For others the words 'Christmas is coming' will strike the same kind of fear as hearing 'Winter is coming' in Game of Thrones. Whichever way you look at it, there is no avoiding that the Christmas season is creeping up on us.

I for one love Christmas and all the cheesy, over commercialised crap that comes with it. I love Christmas movies and Christmas jumpers. Writing lists to Santa and doing Christmas crafts. I have almost finished all my Christmas shopping after starting in the January sales and so the next 6 weeks is all about the build up and preparation for me.

In fact I am now onto helping all my family pick and choose presents for everyone. I love the whole shopping experience and watching people open their presents over Christmas, it is just the best feeling when they really appreciate what you have chosen!

Over the next few weeks I have so many ideas for Christmas content to share from gift guides to crafts and fun family activities. So I hereby apologise to all the Scrooges out there for the next few weeks ;)  but we are going to have the best Christmas yet!

Review & Competition: Fitbug Orb & Kiqplan

Wednesday, November 04, 2015

I have been trying out the Fitbug Orb, fitness, sleep and activity tracker for a while now along with the new Kiqplan Goodbye Baby Bump plan. This year has seen a boom in the popularity of fitness trackers, which has been great as it has also been the year that I decided it was time to beat the bulge and kick start my healthy living regime. After Elsie was born last year I steadily put more weight on until April when I decided it was time to change. I have never been a fan of exercise, not that I dislike it, I just hadn't found a way that suited me and I could fit around looking after the kids. I have found a love of running and go off out whenever I get a chance. I have also grown to love at home exercises and I might sound crazy but I find the aching muscles afterwards so satisfying now!

Tiny Tears 50th Anniversary Doll

Monday, November 02, 2015

This year Tiny Tears celebrates her 50th birthday. Tiny Tears is the UK's most recognisable doll. She was the first fully functional, feeding, crying and wetting doll with closing eyes, moveable arms, legs and head. I briefly remember having a Tiny Tears doll when I was around Gracie's age and loved to push her around in my old classic Silvercross dolls pram. To celebrate the special occasion, a 5oth anniversary  special edition doll has been created. We were lucky enough to be sent the 50th anniversary Tiny Tears doll to review.

Pumpkin Picking & Carving

Sunday, November 01, 2015

I have always wanted to go pumpkin picking yet it is something I have never done (along with berry picking). This year as I have made so much effort with Halloween I decided it was definitely time to go and pick our own pumpkins and do pumpkin carving with the kids. In fact I haven't carved a pumpkin since I was about 7 or 8 so I was probably just as excited as the kids. We decided to go with my friend and her family as our kids are all such good friends and we thought it would be really fun.

Choosing A Care Home

Friday, October 30, 2015

I think we all have an elderly relative either in a care home or living alone. It can be worrying when someone you care for can no longer take complete care of themselves. Many have lived in their family home for years and so comes the dilemma of what to do when they can no longer live alone. Financially it is a huge step but there are many options for you to consider when making a decision to paying for care.

There are many factors which decide on how much a care home costs, usually relating to where you live and the level of care needed. A person who needs round-the-clock care would pay significantly more than a person who is mostly independent so an assessment is needed to determine level of care. According to laws, meals, laundry and accommodation have to be included in the cost whereas entertainment such as days out or hairdressers/appointments may be charged as extras.

It is completely possible to be given financial help towards the cost of care from local authorities or the NHS so always look into ways you can help your loved ones financially as you may be surprised at the help available. Your local authority can carry out a financial assessment (free of charge!).

Some people find it necessary to sell their home to fund care but this ebook has lots of great advice to help if you would prefer this to be a last resort option. It tells you exactly how pensions and benefits may affect costs and also which benefits will be affected by moving into a care home.

For many of us, putting a loved one in a care home is something we never want to think of doing but by doing plenty of research into financial help and choosing a care home you can help them get the care they need and in some cases give them a less lonely way of life.

Friday, October 23, 2015

As Gracie is probably the biggest My Little Pony fan I have ever known, I thought it would be great to offer the complete My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Season Two DVD to celebrate it's release on 26th October!

Twilight Sparkle and her friends Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Apple Jack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity and Spike are back for a bumper bundle of magical adventures in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Even though Twilight Sparkle has learnt a lot of friendship lessons in Ponyville there are still more hurdles to jump and horsey harmony to be found in 26 enchanting episodes of this beloved series. In over 9 hours of irresistible fun and friendship it is one crazy adventure after another, all under the guidance of mentor Princess Celestia, the co-ruler of Equestria. Join the ponies for birthdays, parties and playdates as this season culminates in the grandest of all celebrations - the greatest wedding the ponies have ever seen – and you’re invited!

We have watched every episode whilst it was on TV and it is brilliant. The complete season would make a great Christmas gift for any MLP fan whatever their age.

Last week we were hosts of a Doc McStuffins Twitter Party along with UK TV Mums and a selection of other bloggers. At our party, we had five children altogether, that was my three along with one of Gracie's best friends and her younger sister. This meant we had two 4 year olds, one 3 year old, one (almost) 2 year old and little Elsie has just turned 1. It was such a good range of ages for testing out toys! The aim of the party was to see what the kids thought of the new Doc McStuffins pet vet range of toys.
