My Autumn Inspired Poem

Tuesday, 5 November 2013

I have never seen myself as creative especially when it comes to writing. In fact even at school I was awful at creative writing. I have to say I actually kind of cringed when I read about the Center Parcs Family Breaks Club November Challenge and thought I couldn't enter that! That is when I thought 'hold on Autumn is my favourite season and I read rhymes in books to Gracie every night, how hard can it be?'

Before attempting to write my poem I looked at the tips from resident nature expert and conservation ranger, Emma Tapp from Centreparcs Whinfell Forest. My favourite from the tips she has given is 'Be inspired by your surroundings - Observe as the leaves change colour from green to red and let the beautiful burnt oranges get the creative juices flowing, what does it look like and remind you of?' One of my favourite things about Autumn is the beautiful colours, orange being my favourite colour, and how amazing our woods, parks and gardens look with the autumnal shades surrounding them. It's so captivating. So, I have given it a try, it wasn't easy but it is actually the first poem I ever remember writing (and perhaps my last, we'll see!). It is inspired mainly by what Autumn means to me and my family. Hope you like it!

Autumn

As we say goodbye to the summer greenery,

And get ready to explore the new beautiful scenery,

All Wrapped up in snuggly warm coats,

Our little family set off all in high hopes,

That we see our surroundings in all of their wonder,

And not get caught out by the lightening and thunder,

From walks in the park to woodland trails,

Cute furry animals and icky slimy snails,

We play in the trees climbing higher and higher,

Then tired, we go home and snuggle up by the fire.

I would love to hear what you think?
